Some songs really cheer me up...
First is the discovery of 'Everything I do I do it for you...', and then there's Josh Groban's Thankful.

Some days we forget to look around us

Some days we can see the joy that surrounds us

So caught up inside ourselves

We take where we should give

So for tonight we pray for what we know can be

And on this day we hope for what we still can see

It up to us to be the change and even though we all can still do more

There so much to be thankful for

EMERGENCY FLOOD REPORT

Tap water is running out...
Thousands are still trapped by muddy flood water...
Wetted perimeters of the Severn, Avon, Thames...have suddenly increased hundreds of times
Can't believe I am in the middle of a major flood in British history!!

Survived the M40 and A34 last Friday after getting stuck in a absolute gridlock on the motorway for 3.5 hours.
Arrived at the M4...finally...then discovered the Reading Service area was closed!!
Luckily though the slipway was flooded, and a huge lake appeared right next to the BP petrol station, our Travelodge was a comfortable temporary home for the night, enabling us to enjoy Proms at Royal Albert Hall on the next day. The National Chorus of Wales and National Orchestra of Wales were both fantastic!! (as expected :) coz I've enjoyed their Doctor Who celebratory concert performance so much) I was so glad the London Underground was not flooded too!
------------------------------------------------------------
Anyway, I had a wonderful holiday up in the fells of Yorkshire Dales, Forest of Bowland and Lake District before the Great Flood arrived. I don't think any of my DofE Gold expedition teammates would have guessed that I would choose to go up into the Lakes again only 3 days after surviving through the 4 days camping/hiking trip. But surprisingly, or not so surprisingly since I love geography..haha, I loved walking on the fells with my parents and getting my boots wet and muddy (when crossing an unexpected mountain top marsh at Forest of Bowland, no wonder it's not a national park!). We even had the rare glimpse of a lovely Eagle Owl in its nest as a treat after our battle with the marshes! Thank God for the "appropriate weather", for it was neither too sunny nor wet all day. There were plenty of magical moments with the sheep when we drove up through the mountain passes (Hardnott and Wynose Passes) in the Lake District. And I can never forget the mysterious Scafell Pike above Wast Water (yes! I've finally visited the place on the xanga background!!) and our close acquaintance with the spectacular limestone pavements at Yorkshire Dales.

And...I have finally joined Facebook on my birthday.

Still suffering from post-D of E expedition multiple discomfort syndrome

Saturday, July 14, 2007

The End of an Era...
Very proud of finishing D of E gold expedition...coz it's much worse than the toughest of the HKBB50 training camps.
Leavers' ball was such a special experience...entirely unforgettable.
Can't understand why some dreams keep on coming back to haunt me...

Looking back, I think my time at coll in the past 4 years have changed me so much: positively and negatively. School's given me a lot of opportunities, but has also swayed a few of my ethos many times, to my huge annoyance. I am looking at issues and people very differently now. It's a much wider horizon that I have been exposed to, an environment with both good and evil traits.

The difficult question still remains: what kind of culture influence me the most? I am unlike a typical HKer or British. Some of my views and interests still stand me apart from the crowd. I have become more tactful and 'tolerating', but deep inside it's still a soul that's quite different. Courage is always needed when you have to choose the more challenging, correct path. The last thing I wish is to lose that courage in the desire to blend in blindly.

Come on, stop being too worldly.
